Our New Orchard Barn

Our vision is to develop the orchard into a model for a small scale sustainable tree fruit farming. The 37.5 acre farm is located just off the shores of Lake Ontario and is an ideal location for growing quality tree fruit and has been a successful orchard for many years. Key enablers to achieve this vision include: employing integrated pest management techniques, using disease resistant cultivars, planting diverse tree fruit crops, utilizing low energy consumption farming techniques, establishing a positive relationship with the local community, and being a steward of the environment.

Our Orchard Tractor and Air Blast Sprayer
We Care About the Our Environment!!!

Our Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Program - We use advance integrated pest management techniques under the direction of a Cornell Degreed Pomologist who acts as our agricultural consultant.  Weekly scouting of the orchard enables the early identification of potential pathological (funguses or disease) or insect issues.  This results in a fewer sprays.

During the season, insect monitoring traps are set for coddling moth, oriental fruit moth, and apple maggot.  These traps enable us to monitor pest levels and time application of sprays.  We also utilize pheromone mating disruption techniques that significantly reduce codling moth and oriental fruit moth populations by disrupting their seasonal matting patterns...no spraying required.  The orchard is also home to numerous beneficial insects that prey on pests.

Lastly, each year we seek to identify new methods to reduce the need for costly spray applications while still maintaining high fruit quality standards.

Certified Organic Apple Program - We are Certified by Northeastern Organic Farmers Association (NOFA) for a number of varieties of apples and all products applied to the organic orchard are fully compliant with NOFA's standards.

We are active members of the Cornel Cooperative Extension Lake Ontario Fruit program and contract the services of an experienced orchard consultant with a degree in Pomology to assist us with integrated pest management decisions.  We are also members of the New York Sustainable Agriculture Working Group and the New York State Farm Bureau.
